Year 6 Maths Practice
Number, Ratio & Algebra
Year 6 maths completes the KS2 programme with a focus on fluency and reasoning:
- Place value to 10,000,000; negative numbers and order of operations
- Ratio and proportion: solving problems using scale factors and unit rates
- Introduction to simple algebra: forming and solving one-step equations
- Long division, factors, multiples, primes and square/cube numbers
Fractions, Decimals & Percentages
Year 6 consolidates and extends all fraction, decimal and percentage work:
- Dividing fractions by whole numbers; multiplying pairs of proper fractions
- Calculating percentages of amounts and percentage change
- Ordering and comparing fractions, decimals and percentages on a number line
- Solving multi-step problems involving fractions and decimals
Geometry & Statistics
Shape and data work prepares children for the SATs reasoning papers:
- Calculating angles in triangles, quadrilaterals and around a point
- Coordinates in all four quadrants; translation and reflection
- Area of triangles, parallelograms and composite shapes
- Constructing and interpreting pie charts; calculating the mean
