Number, Ratio & Algebra

Year 6 maths completes the KS2 programme with a focus on fluency and reasoning:

• Place value to 10,000,000; negative numbers and order of operations
• Ratio and proportion: solving problems using scale factors and unit rates
• Introduction to simple algebra: forming and solving one-step equations
• Long division, factors, multiples, primes and square/cube numbers

• Ordering and comparing fractions, decimals and percentages on a number line
• Solving multi-step problems involving fractions and decimals

Geometry & Statistics

Shape and data work prepares children for the SATs reasoning papers:

• Calculating angles in triangles, quadrilaterals and around a point
• Coordinates in all four quadrants; translation and reflection
• Area of triangles, parallelograms and composite shapes
• Constructing and interpreting pie charts; calculating the mean
