Year 2 SATs Maths Past Papers

Primary school children learning in a classroom

Key Stage 1 SATs Maths

Year 2 SATs maths assessments cover the Key Stage 1 curriculum across two papers:

  • Number: counting, place value to 100, addition and subtraction facts
  • Multiplication and division: 2, 5 and 10 times tables
  • Fractions: halves, quarters and thirds of shapes and quantities
  • Measurement and geometry: 2-D/3-D shapes, length, mass, capacity and time

Paper 2 — Reasoning

The reasoning paper includes a variety of question styles:

  • Number sequences and pattern recognition
  • Simple word problems involving money and measures
  • Comparing and ordering numbers using < and > symbols
  • Reading and interpreting simple tables, pictograms and block charts

Supporting Your Child

Year 2 SATs are low-stakes but good preparation builds habits that last:

  • Practise number bonds to 10 and 20 until they are automatic
  • Use everyday objects to make maths concrete and memorable
  • Encourage children to explain their reasoning
  • Short, regular sessions tend to work better than occasional long ones
